 PTFE Expansion Tape Product Introduction
PTFE expansion tape is an expandable sealing material made from pure PTFE as the base material through special processing. Its unique thermal expansion characteristic makes it an ideal sealing solution for high-temperature and high-pressure conditions.
Core Features
· Intelligent Expansion: Begins expanding at 150°C, with a maximum expansion rate of up to 200%.
· Superior Temperature Resistance: Stable long-term operation from -200°C to +260°C.
· Dual Sealing Mechanism: Combines mechanical compression sealing and thermal expansion sealing.
· Safe & Eco-Friendly: Asbestos-free, FDA certified (21 CFR 177.1550).
Product Advantages
· Emergency Sealing: Automatically compensates for seal gaps when temperature rises.
· Easy Installation: Can be directly wound without pre-forming.
· Long-lasting Stability: Service life of 3-5 years at 260°C.
· High Versatility: Suitable for irregular sealing surfaces.
Typical Applications
· Industrial Sealing:
Emergency sealing for high-temperature flanges (sudden leaks)
Supplemental sealing for valve stuffing boxes
· Energy Equipment:
   Compensation sealing for steam pipelines
   Maintenance sealing for heat exchangers
· Specialized Fields:
Pipeline sealing in nuclear power plants (RCC-M certified)
   Fuel line sealing for spacecraft
Usage Guide
1. Installation Steps:
   · Clean sealing surface (Ra ≤ 3.2μm)
   · Spiral winding (50% overlap)
   · Initial tightening force of 10-15 N/mm²
2. Activation Conditions:
   · Minimum activation temperature: 150°C
   · Optimal activation range: 180-220°C
   · Full expansion time: 30-60 minutes
3. Maintenance Recommendations:
   · Check expansion state annually
   · Re-tighten during system shutdown
   · Do not reuse more than 3 times
Quality Certifications
· API 6A (Petroleum Equipment Certification)
· ISO 9001 Quality Management System
· PED 2014/68/EU (Pressure Equipment Directive)
· ASME B16.20 (Pipe Flange Gaskets)
Selection Advice
· Standard Sealing: Choose 1.0 mm thick standard type.
· High-Pressure Conditions: Recommend 1.5 mm reinforced type.
· Rapid Emergency Response: Choose low-temperature activation type (starts at 120°C).
· Nuclear Applications: Specify special type with barrier layer.
Important Notes:
1. Reserve 20% compression allowance during installation.
2. Do not allow direct contact with strong oxidizing agents.
3. Pre-high-temperature devolatilization treatment required for food-grade applications.
4. Cannot be disassembled in reverse after expansion.
This product has been successfully applied in:
· High-temperature oil pumps in a refinery (380°C/5 MPa conditions)
· Main steam isolation valves in nuclear power plants (RCC-M nuclear-grade certified)
· Space station fluid pipeline systems (NASA standard)
