Professional Introduction to PP Nonwoven Fabric
Material Definition
PP nonwoven fabric is a flexible sheet material primarily made from polypropylene (PP) through nonwoven processes such as meltblown, spunbond, thermal calendering, or hydroentanglement. Unlike traditional textiles, its fibers are directly consolidated through physical, chemical, or mechanical methods. Main types include:
1.  Spunbond Nonwoven (SMS/SS): Continuous filament web, high strength.
2.  Meltblown Nonwoven (MB): Ultra-fine fibers, excellent filtration performance.
3.  Through-Air/Thermal Bonded Nonwoven: Bonded by heat, soft and fluffy.
Core Performance Advantages
1.  Excellent Physical & Mechanical Properties
High Strength & Lightweight: MD/CD tensile strength can reach 10-50 N/5cm, basis weight 10-200 gsm.
Good Breathability: Air permeability up to 500-3000 L/m²/s, maintaining dryness and comfort.
Soft & Skin-Friendly: Fiber fineness 1-3 denier, feel close to traditional textiles.
2.  Outstanding Chemical Stability
Chemical Corrosion Resistance: Resistant to acids and alkalis (pH 2-12), organic solvents (alcohol, oils, etc.).
Mold & Mildew Resistance: Hydrophobic material, does not harbor bacteria or mold.
Non-Toxic & Safe: Complies with GB 15979, FDA, and other health and safety standards.
3.  Flexible Processability
Easy to Laminate: Can be laminated with PE film, ES fibers, activated carbon, etc.
Easy to Form and Process: Suitable for secondary processing like ultrasonic welding, heat sealing, die-cutting.
Functional Modification Possible: Can add hydrophilic, antimicrobial, flame-retardant properties through finishing.

Technological Frontiers

1.  Nanofiber Technology

Electrospun PP Nanofibers: Fiber diameter <500nm, filtration efficiency >99.9% (PM0.3).

Nanocoating Modification: Imparts superhydrophobic (contact angle >150°), self-cleaning functions.

2.  Multifunctional Composite Technology

SMS Sandwich Structure: Spunbond (S) + Meltblown (M) + Spunbond (S), balancing strength and filtration.

Bicomponent Fibers: PP/PE side-by-side or sheath-core structure, combining thermal bonding and softness.

Activated Carbon Composite: Adsorbs odors, VOCs, used for protection and purification.

3.  Green & Sustainable Technology

Bio-based PP Nonwovens: Use renewable raw materials, lower carbon footprint.

Biodegradable PP: Additives promote degradation under specific conditions.

Recycling: Post-consumer PP nonwoven recycling for pelletizing and lower-end uses.
